Clinical and Professional Supervision
Heather has experience across a diverse range of occupational therapy services, as well as background in training, leadership and management. She has a passion for training and encouraging the development of other therapists, and has particular strength in bringing on early career therapists who are wanting a good start and foundation.
Heather has trained over 30 therapists, therapy assistants, and therapy-based administrative support staff in her previous employment and was responsible for the day to day operations and supervision of each. Heather has formally supervised international occupational therapists who are working under limited registration and aided them to gain general registration with AHPRA. Heather prides herself on having led teams with a positive and supportive collaborative culture and a high rate of retention - which is becoming increasingly hard to find within companies providing therapy services in the NDIS space.
This background puts Heather in a good position to supervise therapists who may be starting their career, starting out in the disability sector, working in places with minimal senior guidance available, or starting out in providing services under an NDIS funding model. With a client centred outlook and a patient and encouraging nature Heather is able to inspire and motivate other therapists and support them to fulfil their potential.
Areas of clinical knowledge and practice include:
- Functional Capacity Assessment
- Initial Assessment, therapy services and progress reporting (both paediatric and adult)
- Equipment/Assistive Technology prescription, including wheelchairs, beds, mattresses, mobility scooters, hoists and slings, and other lifting devices, as well as low risk/low cost adaptive items.
- Home Modifications, both major and minor
- Manual Handling
- Ergonomics
- SIL, ILO, and SDA
